Parc naturel régional Gruyère Pays-d'Enhaut - From the Grand Chalet to the alluvial zone of the Sarine.
Anyone arriving at Rossinière train station cannot fail to see the majestic Grand Chalet, where the famous painter Balthus (1908–2001) spent his final years. Today, it is still home to his family, his art studio and the Balthus foundation.
The trail passes by the old wooden houses around the village square and gently climbs through the pastures above Rossinière towards Pâquier au Lièvre and Château-d'Œx. After crossing the Turrian bridge, the oldest suspension bridge in Switzerland still in use today (1883), the trail runs along an alluvial zone of national importance which is vital to safeguarding the natural dynamics of the river and its flora and fauna. The Ramaclé waterfall is a particularly lovely sight.
After a brief climb to the hamlet of Gérignoz, the trail crosses the Sarine again. From there, it is a short walk to Les Combes. Cross the cantonal road and take the path that leads up to the Buvette des Serpenteys, which is open during the summer months. From here, the trail runs through the small valley of Les Ciernes Picat to Rougemont. On the final descent, it is worth slowing down to admire the village's centuries-old wooden chalets, many of which feature pretty carvings, paintings and inscriptions.
