Parc Jura vaudois

Regional nature park since 2013

The Jura vaudois nature park extends from the summit of the Dôle to Romainmôtier. It offers typical landscapes and unspoilt nature, from the villages at the foot of the Jura mountains over ridges and three passes to the Vallée de Joux. The rich heritage and lively traditions characterize the region. A visit is worthwhile in summer and winter: on foot, by bike or on skis.

Harmonieuse diversité

On a territory of 531 km2, the Jura vaudois Nature Park brings together 35'800 inhabitants and thirty municipalities that share a common goal. Here, spruce trees and dry-stone walls create a distinctive landscape of wooded pastures. Alternating with large forests, such as the Risoud, they reflect the silvopastoral activity that characterizes the region.

Nearly 217 alpine chalets are scattered around the Park. Sometimes used for tourist accommodation, they are still dedicated to the alpine economy and cheese-making which the local specialities bear witness to. Heir to a centuries-old history, this region vibrates with plenty of lively traditions, such as the «Jeunesses Campagnardes», and maintains know-how such as fine watchmaking, woodworking and the work of wall builders. This nature is home to precious environments for the capercaillie, the peliad viper or the saxifrage goat. The karstic relief, typical of the Jura massif, is revealed by the presence of marshes, caves or chasms. Rivers are rare. Lakes, as in the Vallée de Joux, are all the more precious. People here live mainly from agriculture, services and tourism. They are devoted to their heritage and their roots.

Residents and visitors alike enjoy calm recreation in the vast wilderness. The Jura vaudois Nature Park highlights this natural and cultural heritage. It supports sustainable initiatives in the fields of nature and landscape, energy, mobility, agriculture, tourism and the local economy. Its actions to raise awareness of sustainable development draw everyone's attention to the value of this area.
