Naturpark Thal - The perfect Sunday walk – take the NaturparkBus from Balsthal up to the Brunnersberg (1118 m. a. s. l.) From there, you have a gentle hike to the Obere Tannmatt (1122 m. a. s. l.) and take the bus from there back down the valley.
Relish the heavenly views from the second Jura mountain chain, without needing to negotiate the ascent on foot – it’s only possible with the NaturparkBus. Every Sunday and on all public holidays from Friday, 18 April to the end of October 2025, the bus runs in two routes up the second Jura chain.
Take the NaturparkBus from Balsthal to the Brunnersberg bus stop and hike over the Gross Brunnersberg in the direction of Obere Tannmatt, where the NaturparkBus drives in the direction of Herbetswil/Balsthal.
Why not combine your Sunday excursion with a visit to the Bergwirtschaft Güggel or Bergrestaurant Obere Tannmatt mountain inns.
You can reach the Naturpark Thal from the town centres in around 60 minutes using public transport. This service is supported by the Thal Raiffeisenbanken and the PostAuto transport partner.
Sunny Jura hills with a panorama of the Alps, the Black Forest and Vosges. Several mountain inns tempt you to stop by. The trail goes to the south through airy pine forests on the hill crest. To the north lies the picturesque Gulden valley.
Visit the Bergwirtschaft after hiking to the Wolfsschlucht
Bergwirtschaft Güggel – cosy mountain inn with garden terrace. The small menu includes superb smoked sausages and meringue glacé.
