Purpose of the Network

On May 23, 2007 19 park projects founded the association “Swiss parks network” on the Chasseral. The network is a sort of “umbrella organisation” which administers the interests of its members and assists them in establishing and operating parks and to ensure their quality in the long-term.  

The purpose of the network according to its constitution is to support the park sponsorships in achieving the goals in accordance with the Nature and Cultural Heritage Protection Act NHG. In particular these include

• the preservation, enhancement and if need be the further development of nature, landscape and cultural values
• promotion of environmental education
• strengthening of sustainably operated management and promotion of marketing their goods and services.

The network thus fulfils important functions in implementing the parks policy of the federal government, as defined in the legislation and in the park ordinance.

The Federal Office for the Environment FOEN has also concluded a performance agreement with the Swiss parks network. The network fulfils functions such as organising the exchange of experiences, representation of the parks and the public relations, and for this it is partially reimbursed by the federal government.
